Steps forward 2 - 4 Steps backwards

How can you account for a team that has won the league championship three years in succession getting turned over on its own ground by a side with some talent but which is also peppered with mediocre footballers?

Bad luck? Bad refereeing?

No.

The answer is bad planning and inexcusable errors from individuals.

First, to the defence. Yet again, Celtic have been exposed as a team that is uneven in its distribution of personnel. We have at least six talented midfielders but still only one left-back. (The “versatile”, injured and invisible Jean-Joel Perrier Doumbe can hardly be counted.)

It has been apparent since, 12 months ago, Vladimir Bystrov raced past Lee Naylor like a Ferrari overtaking a Skoda with a caravan in tow that we needed another left-back. We didn’t sign one. What are we left with? A good right-back putting in an abysmal performance in the left and being skinned by the likes of Kirk Broadfoot.

Gordon Strachan, who often mentions the duty of full-backs to protect their centre halves, would do well occasionally to remind the men in the middle of small consideration such as cover, when players like Daniel Cousin are tearing down the wings with only one option in the penalty box.

Wilson was bad – really bad – but the experienced pairing of Gary Caldwell and Stephen McManus far too often watched play developing around them, perhaps because of the clever zonal marking system that Celtic execute so brilliantly.

Then there is Artur Boruc. Let’s mention the elephant in the room: Boruc is a great goalkeeper – probably the best in the world – but has started the season in the manner of a man whose priorities are seriously distorted. Two disciplinary incidents since the summer, a visible belly and a casual demeanour do nothing to engender confidence after a display that would have embarrassed Henty “Drop the Ball” Smith.

Then there is our most experienced international striker, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. A game is not lost at 3-1 with 20 minutes to go, especially when your opponents have just had a man sent off.

To aim idiotic kicks at opponents off-the-ball and then leave the pitch with a wry smile when quite correctly shown a red card is inexcusable and unworthy of a Celtic player. Jan has been an exceptional player for us and has suffered a serious injury. Hopefully the manager will demonstrate to him forcibly that as a senior Celtic player, he is expected to be professional at all times.

How frustrating this must have been for the players who were performing well. Scott Brown and Paul Hartley worked hard to be productive for the attackers, Georgios Samaras was dangerous throughout and Aiden McGeady, Shaun Maloney and Shunsuke Nakamura looked capable of producing more openings. Ben Hutchinson faced an unenviable introduction to the derby fixture but should now be in third place in the strikers' pecking order.

However, it was a wasted effort when let down by such unprofessional, juvenile displays elsewhere.

Rangers deserved their win and congratulations to them on an excellent display. Some Celtic players should seriously consider issuing an apology.

As an Arsenal & Rangers ()supporter (living in Jamaica) but unable to watch the SPL due TV coverage limitations; and thus not follwoing the scottish league as much, i must commend the author of this article for his seemingly passisned but considered article about a fixture that is regarded as the most fierce in world football. good to see sensible wrtings about the great game. I would ahev loved to have seen this game regardless of result!

An interesting footnote-the only place I ever saw Bob Marley live was in Glasgow (1980)....

The TRIPLE-TITLE-WINNING Reigning Champions, Celtic, "lost" the 1st "TWO" Derbies "in a row" last Season & STILL went on to Win it ....

Poor Artur, Who's normally So Good, was abysmal today .... The game was reminiscent of His matches against Hibs last Year & a match against Hearts the Season before that, where Artur was Chucking them into the back of the net .... It Genuinely Looked as though Artur was trying to Do Gordon a favour, to loosen up Our Board's purse-strings, for at least 1 Left-back ....

You'll get games where EVERYTHING Your "inferior" opponents hit GOES IN .... Whilst Our Strikers seemed SCARED to take a shot today ....

Celtic were WITHOUT Their 2 Top Strikers from last Season Today .... There was No Lee Naylor, with Right-back Wilson covering at Left-back .... And Gary Caldwell is just back from injury .... So We've yet to be able to get into Our stride due to injuries, that WON'T BE REFLECTED in the dodgy-dave-funded, blue-nosed, "twisted" & TRANSPARENT, pathetic media Scotland is constantly subjected to .... Those idiots are in a tiny wee "perverse" world All Their Own .... Bless Them ....

I'd play Brown as a super-sub, Who would replace Either Hartley or Robson if They start to tire .... It would terrify "tiring" mid-fiedlers to See Brown coming on with half an hour to go ....

I'd swap Hinkel for Caddis .... I'd also try Crosas for Hartley late on in the next few matches .... When Big Jan's back I'd rotate Him with Samaras, Jan could SOFTEN THEM UP & Then Sammy could punish Them with His swifter play ....

I haven't had a chance to look at Big Jan's red card, but it seemed soft & "sadly" inkeeping with the direction the inept Ref wanted the game to go, so He wouldn't get any more flak for sending off the flying-bulldozer aka Cousin ....

Sean Maloney was less of a Presence than He was in the last Match, but things bode well for the Matches ahead, undoubtedly ....

The HOME Celtic-fans "FAILED" to PROVIDE a Condusive ATMOSPHERE, to inspire The Bhoys, as USUAL .... The Bhoys seem to PREFER playing "AWAY" from Home, where a Better Atmosphere comes out of the mouths of less than 10% of Today's turn-out ....

It's very rare for Any team in the World to go a Whole Season without losing a match or 2 .... EVEN MILAN LOST TODAY "AT HOME" to an inferior team .... Last Season We sailed quite close to the wind but after We We win the next 3 Derbies "in a row," then this rangers win today (by only 2 easy-to-save goals) "WILL" HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN ....

Celtic will STILL win The League & By quite some distance .... As winning the game today will Only serve to Confuse the "brutal" Wunda-Walter into what formations to go with in the next few matches, with the permanently raging inmates of ibrox usual unforgiving attitude scrutinising His every failure ....

Far more importantly, this Will Galvanise the Sleeping Giants We Saw on the park today & Celtic Will now go from Strength to Strength, having had a few pointers from the half-wits in blue as to Where We Need to tighten up ....

We need to UP the Speed of Matches, otherwise We'll keep on making it Easy on "inferior" teams .... Even a team of part-timers Could give You a HARD game IF You let Them regroup behind the ball & if You SLOW DOWN the speed of attack when You come up against 1 EASY TO PASS defender ....

My Advice in the Final third is, IF You Don't Succeed with a METHODICAL Patient attack, then TAKE A F$@CKING SHOT with the next attack & keep switching between the 2 styles .... EVENTUALLY "ONE" of These "approaches" WILL get a Goal .... Otherwise We're left watching wasted PATIENT build-up, after foiled "patient" build-up play, that leads to "very little" to show for All Our Efforts .... Especially when Our opponents are taking "pot shots" 1 after the other .... With LUCK on Their side THEY win & ALL We're left with is some impressive build-up play ....

This has come at A Good Time, ahead of US playing in the Champions League .... Whilst the complete fools, Who sang Their shameful ditties again today, can only WATCH !!!!

I KEPT FAITH "ALL" Throughout the "trying times" of Last Season & The Champions came Good, exactly as I Said They Would .... And again I'm "ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN2 & You Must KNOW that We're going to Win The League Again .... Here's to FOUR IN A ROW !!!! ....

HAIL HAIL !!!!
CHAMPIONEES !!!! CHAMPIONEES !!!!
CHAMPIONEES !!!! CHAMPIONEES !!!!
CHAMPIONEES !!!! CHAMPIONEES !!!!
