To Gordon Strachan, players and staff - sincere thanks

I posted this to Celtic Quick News but then, in my confusion, thought I might put it on my own blog. It's that kid of night.

Well, I have always supported our manager but I don't mind saying again: thank-you Gordon Strachan. And to all our players and coaching staff and everyone else who made it possible: thank-you all.

Neither do I mind confessing that I thought our chance had gone after Motherwell won at Celtic Park - even to the point of analysing where it went wrong. I say that because I think we should all fess up when we get it wrong rather than acting like hacks who pretend it never happened.

But, I'll say this - as time went on, I wanted nothing more than to have to admit that I was wrong. The thought of my fellow Celtic fans saying, "I told you so" because we had defied the odds was almost more than I could have wished for.

I'm proud to have been wrong because this Celtic team has me filled to bursting with pride. For personal reasons that I can't quite explain here tonight, I had thought that this would be the ultimate in disheartening seasons for me.

Instead, tonight has been one of my greatest ever as a Celtic supporter. Before tonight I had felt that, for me, this would be the best feeling since the centenary double if we achieved it. When I watched the match tonight, I couldn't help feeling that this was what it used to be like - when, for me, football was better, more innocent but when the ideals were more pure.

I wasn't even in Dundee but the chants and the songs took me back to a very special time when I was first realising how indivisible were my identity as a boy or man and as a Celtic supporter.

I don't know if there was something different because of the death of Tommy Burns - and, of course Phil O'Donnell - or if I just perceived things that way because I have been transported back to those times. I do know it felt very special to me - even more so than I could have imagined.

Even at the end, Barry Robson had a green, white and yellow scarf that reminded me so much of those days.

So again, Gordon Strachan, coaches and players too many to name, I thank you. You'll never know what this particular win means to me - just one fan at one moment in time. I hope and expect, though, that you will all see that this is no ordinary club.

For each of us, in our millions, we have our own reasons for feeling that only Celtic can do something this special - and every new victory over the coming years will have a new, unique significance to countless people.

This is the greatest football club in the world - and you are serving it proudly.

And the Fat Lady has changed course

Just weeks after a few fools were said it would not be done, Celtic's Tannadice Tigers have written their own page in history with one of the club's greatest ever wins.

It has been a tough season - and incredibly emotional. We will never forget Tommy Burns and the sadness that his death has caused us all. But in the finest traditions of Celtic, the players and management have made us proud.

To Gordon Strachan, all the coaches and players - thank you!

You can rightly take your place among the Celtic legends. The club is in safe hands.

And, don't forget, You'll never walk alone.

Celtic Football Club can today announce an outstanding opportunity to join the club’s pantheon of legends.

Past greats include Willie Maley, John Thomson, Patsy Gallacher, Charlie Tully, Jock Stein, Billy McNeill, Jimmy Johnstone, Kenny Dalglish, Paul McStay, Lubomir Moravcik, Henrik Larsson and of course the late great Tommy Burns among innumerable others.

However, we are always looking for new candidates and we are offering you the chance to demonstrate your credentials to join football’s most prestigious club.

The Club

For 120 years, Celtic Football Club has epitomised the finest ideals in football. This is sport played to the highest standards with a passion and ethos that sets it apart from its rivals and has brought worldwide fame and admiration.

But at Celtic we don’t rest on our laurels and are currently recruiting for the next century of success.

The Candidates

Our history has shown us that your background is less important than your ability, sporting integrity and drive to succeed.

Whether you are a coach who can transform months of preparation with a few inspirational words, a goalkeeper or defender prepared to risk injury rather than concede, a midfielder prepared to run and tackle until the last whistle while still playing refined football or a striker who can be relied on to score a last-gasp goal but also know when to hand glory to a team-mate, we want to hear from you now.

You’ll be the sort of person who is inspired by history but with the hunger and ambition to set new standards of excellence in the finest tradition of Celtic.

The Job

We require skilled football professionals of strong character to commit themselves fully to achieving our goals while maintaining the ideals of our supporters. The job is physically demanding so you will need to be prepared to work for your team-mates and the supporters of the club, putting Celtic’s aspirations before your own.

This is a demanding position and one that would suit professionals who thrive on pressure and are motivated by expectation. Moreover, playing for a club with unlimited ambition requires sportsmen who are constantly seeking new standards of excellence.

The Package

Financial remuneration and benefits are as you would expect of a top-class football club.

Future possible opportunities, depending on performance, include the chance to play at the highest level of European competition.

Additionally, we offer fame, the respect and adulation of millions and, for the very best, an honoured place in Celtic history alongside some of the finest footballers to have graced the game.

How to apply

Trials/live auditions will take place tonight in Tannadice Park, Dundee at 7.45pm. This will take the form of a highly competitive football match with victory a must.

Successful candidates will be advised immediately and receive an award on the night.

  • Thousands of supporting roles are also available.
